I am a first cousin of Bette and Lynne Skow and am starting to put together bits and pieces of family geneology. My father was Arthur Skow, younger brother of Carl. My grandfather and grandmother, Simon and Marie Clemmensen Skow were both born in Denmark. My grandmother was born in Ribe and my grandfather was born on the outskirts of Ribe in Roeger or Vesterbeck. At the time he was born, this part of Denmark was part of Germany and he and his brother, Hans, came to America to avoid service in the German army. My grandmother came to Boston at age 15 to work as a nanny for a Danish family that had emmigrated earlier. I do not have the exact birthdates with me at the moment because I am in south Florida at my son's house for the holidays. I believe my grandparents were married in Boston and that was where Carl was born (although I have it as Dorchester, MA). My father was born in 1903 in Jersey City, NJ, but at some period the family lived in Rinebeck, NY on the Hudson River. The family moved to So. Amboy when my father was in elementary school. At some period the Skow family lived in Rhinebeck, NY on the Hudson River. My grandfather Simon was very active with a Danish American Brotherhood in NYC and was president of this organization, and also was involved with the Danish Home in Metuchen NJ. He was employed by a terra cotta company and travelled to supervise the construction of buildings with this ornate kind of terracotta facades. If you want the birthdates,etc., I can check when I get home and give them to you. I am assuming the Kenzie family is your main interest. How are you related to Bette? I really was impressed with the work you have compiled! I am just begimning to get into this. We have been to Ribe several times and I have met cousins on my grandmother's side, but did not have much luck with the Skow side because I did not realize until we were ready to leave Denmark that Westerbeck, Germany (which is on my gralndfather's birth certificate), was actually Vesterbeck, Denmark. The birth certificate read "born in Westerbeck, Germany of Danish parents Soren and Sorina Skow."

Received a letter from Michele 11/5/2004 explaining
the reason behind some of their childrens names. She explained that:
The CARL in Joshua Carl is from Carl Skow (Bette's dad). Also, Joshua arrived
just a few weeks after Meta's passing. One life on earth was leaving just
as a new one was beginning. Meta had a joy in living, a kind and gentle spirit,
and lots of love. Her husband Carl, in addition to sharing these traits, was
extremely hard-working. He began working at age 14 and worked as he finished
high school and later evening University classes. During the depression, I
understand he supported 3 families - his own, his parents' and his in-laws'
families.
The MARSHALL in Andrew's name is from Marshall Leslie Kenzie. This we chose
because I seem to remember in one version of this history that Marshall was
a man of real faith and used to sing hymns in the field while he worked. Our
hope for Andrew is that he would love the Lord and find joy in Him as we understood
his ancestor did
The HALL in Timothy's name comes both from Joe's grandfather's last name and
Bertha Hall.
